Our company had the privilege of working with a client who was using an internally built system to manage and record maintenance information for their large construction equipment. The system kept track of the maintenance performed at various intervals, such as 500, 1000, and 2000 hours, for each piece of equipment. They also included the specific tasks that needed to be completed at each interval. While the system served its purpose, our client recognized the need for a more efficient and scalable solution.

Objectives

  1. Develop a user-friendly app that replaces the existing system and offers additional features to streamline equipment maintenance management.
  2. Enable users to easily create service templates with intervals and tasks, either from scratch or by utilizing a premium library subscription.
  3. Provide indications to users when equipment is close to or overdue for service.
  4. Implement a service ticket system that automatically populates tasks based on the selected service interval.
  5. Integrate an operator checklist to update equipment service/wear hours before usage.
  6. Build the app as a Software as a Service (SaaS) application to allow the client to offer subscriptions to other service providers.

Solution

Our team of experienced developers collaborated closely with the client to understand their unique requirements and pain points. We then embarked on building a comprehensive equipment maintenance management app from the ground up. The app was designed to replace the system while introducing a range of powerful features to enhance efficiency and usability.

One of the key features of the app is the ability for users to create service templates. These templates define the intervals and tasks associated with each piece of equipment. Upon completion of the service ticket, the equipment service sticker is reset, and the app begins tracking the next service interval.

To accurately track equipment usage, we integrated an operator checklist into the app. Before using the equipment, operators fill out the checklist, noting the current service/wear hours. This information is seamlessly updated in the app, providing a reliable record of equipment utilization.

Recognizing the potential for wider adoption, we developed the app as a SaaS application. This approach enables our client to offer subscriptions to other service providers, expanding their business opportunities and generating additional revenue streams.
